Our Brilliant Ruin: Core Book

Our Brilliant Ruin explores human drama and personal intrigue in an elitist, class-based society unraveling amid an existential catastrophe known as the Ruin. With aesthetics and technology inspired by England’s Edwardian Era and France’s Belle Époque, the Dramark is a fictional world that draws from the Art Nouveau and Art Deco movements. Our Brilliant Ruin uses an original system of dice pools driven by a character’s emotions and motivations and is designed for a gamemaster and group of one or more players. The game focuses on the relationships and drama of class-based society and the balance between the “haves” and “have-nots.” Three broad factions exist from players to choose from - the aristocrats, the truefolk, and the unbonded. Meanwhile, the Ruin alters the very physiology of things, causing flora to sprout into mutated deathtraps, animals to grow hideous appendages, and humans to transform into monstrosities. The Ruin also clings to metal, corroding and destroying it, leaving the people all the more vulnerable to the creatures it spawns. The Ruin’s ultimate contamination of the entire Dramark isn’t a question of if, but when. A complete roleplaying game, this 296-page book includes systems for character creation, gameplay rules, a regional gazetteer, gallery of allies and antagonists, and an introductory scenario A guide to the world of the Dramark, the gilded-age wonders and Ruined horrors it contains, along with overviews of the aristocrat, truefolk, and unbonded factions, and their many families, guilds, and other organizations Character creation is quick and easy, getting players into the drama and horror of the setting in a snap
